I Have A Muscle Knot In My Back, It Is Extremely Painful!

One of my friends sent me a Whatsapp message saying that she has a painful muscle knot in her back; and after thinking about the exact same back pain I experienced for three days prior to receiving her message, I was inspired to write this blog post. I share the techniques I use to help me recover from my extremely painful muscles.

N.B. It is always best to consult personally with your Medical Healthcare Provider for personalised treatment for your specific issues.

What Is a Muscle Knot?

What Is A Muscle Knot?

Our muscles relax and contract when we move. Sometimes a muscle contracts and doesn’t relax again and that is what people call a “knot” because that is literally what a muscle feels like while it is stuck in that contracted state.

What Causes Muscle Knots?

Woman Lifting Weights
  1. Bad posture puts strain on your muscles and causes them to contract and feel like a knot
  2. Muscle weakness due to inactivity causes muscle tension which is often referred to as knots
  3. Overexertion like exercising too much and lifting heavy items may cause muscles to knot or contract and feel uncomfortable or painful

How To Get Rid of Muscle Knots

Heat Therapy (Such As Wheat Bags) For Muscle Pain Relief

“Heat therapy is an effective remedy for back pain because it boosts circulation, which then allows nutrients and oxygen to travel to joints and muscles. This circulation helps repair damaged muscles, relieves inflammation, and improves back stiffness.” – www.healthline.com

Apply heat therapy to the effected area to get relief from stiff painful muscles.

Cold Therapy Like a Cold Pack can Reduce Muscle Pain

Applying cold is helpful when you want to reduce swelling, inflammation and pain. It can also reduce painful muscle spasms. Be sure to immediately ice a new injury to keep swelling in check and reduce the pain of pressure on the injury – www.beaumont.org

Why Is Massage Great For Pain Relief?

Why Is Massage Great For Pain Relief?

Massage studies show a significant reduction in pain levels, as well as the interrelatedness of pain, relaxation, sleep, emotions, recovery, and finally, the healing process.

Ask a friend to give you a rub, or visit a professional Massage Therapist to help relieve tension in your body; getting a massage is great for relaxation and will relieve your muscle pain.

N.B. Remember to drink water after a massage to help rid your body of toxins!

I have a little experience with massage so I plan to help my friend mentioned in the beginning of this blog! I will use my ICEman Herbal Cooling Gel (which is made for horses lol but people are using it now and I’ve tried it on myself and) I’ve found it effective; In conjunction with hot therapy, exercise and massage.

(*Update* My friend wasn’t keen to use the ICEman, and opted for DeepHeat instead. She feels much better now, so much less tension, and the pain is gone.)

I hope you also find a way to rid yourself of muscle pain and tension that actually works. Especially if it’s a muscle knot in your back that’s extremely painful, those are the absolute worst!
